Sunday, 30 April

Launch day. It was an early start as high tide was before 08:00 but our rig driver, Derek, had lifted us in the rig the day before so we could paint the keel where the keel blocks had been and would be ready to launch as early as possible. We were ready at 07:45 and Harvard was soon safely in the water and tied up on the pontoon at Marchwood YC. We had loaded a lot of equipment on Harvard in the weeks before so we were in good shape to start our cruising, although we still had a few very heavy items such as the liferaft, the inflatable dingy and outboard to load. Then it was a quick trip home for more clothes and other odds and ends and then off to Morrisons to stock up on supplies. A bit of a rush as it was close to 4 o’clock, when the store closed, but working as a team we were able to buy most things we needed. Once back onboard, and as the wind died down in the evening, we were able to fit the mainsail and genoa. Slept onboard Having felt we had achieved a lot. A glass of wine helping us go to sleep.
