After leaving Newtown Creek we motored slowly with the tide towards Bembridge. We didn’t want to arrive too early as there would not be enough water to clear the bar at the entrance. Off Cowes we were surprised by 5 blasts from a ship’s horn followed by 5 guns being fired from the Yacht Squadron. There was what looked liked a foreign naval ship anchored outside Cowes which turned out to be a Polish warship the ORP Wodnik that was there on a goodwill visit.

Off Ryde we actually sailed for a little before entering Bembridge harbour on a rising time. We had booked two nights and the harbour staff were on hand to guide us in to a berth. Our friend Tony is a sailing instructor at Brading Haven Yacht club in Bembridge harbour and he met up with us onboard to eat with us. It was great to see him again and catch up on all his news.
