Tuesday, 22 July – the River Yealm

Determined to have a walk again and we were up early and soon ashore. Once ashore we walked up to the delicatessen and coffee shop and enjoyed a drink and a croissant before heading across the creek to Noss Mayo which is possible at low tide without getting your feet wet. Then we set off along the coast path towards Yealm Head and it really started to rain. We were soon wet through but there was no point in going back so we soldiered on and once we were round the headland the rain eased off and we were able to stop and eat our sandwiches in the dry, looking out to sea.

The worst of the rain nearly over. Looking east from the coastal path.

Once at Stoke Beach we headed inland and over the peninsular back into Nos Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Stopped at the Dolphin for a drink (non-alcoholic again!!!) and headed back to Harvard. Probably a good 7 to 8 mile walk completed, so we felt we had done quite well considering the weather. We were going to go back ashore for a shower, and perhaps eat in the pub, but inertia overtook us and we packed away the dinghy and had supper onboard ready to head back to Plymouth tomorrow morning.
