Charlotte, Prem, Jiya and Arjan are going to be on holiday near Fowey from tomorrow so we said we would meet up with them as Jiya wants to see Grandpa’s boat!!
The forecast was for a reasonable south westerly wind,f and sure enough once we were clear of the estuary we found a good breeze but quite a lumpy sea. We hoisted all sail which settled Harvard down and headed out to sea on starboard tack until we were sure we could clear Rame Head on port tack. Tacked and with the Hydrovane doing a great job we made good progress until approaching Looe when the wind died away and we were left flopping around in the waves. So it was on with the engine for about an hour, not making great progress, when the wind came up again. We headed out to sea on starboard tack and when we thought we could lay Fowey on port tack, tacked and again made good progress. The wind peaked at about 23 knots apparent, so we put some reefs in but still kept up a good speed. The clouds were very low so visibility was not that great but thanks to the wonders of modern electronic navigation we always knew where we were.
Once inside the harbour we dropped the mainsail and were in two minds where to moor up. There was a visitors mooring buoy available and the harbour patrol was happy for us to take it, so we were soon safely attached to it on the Polruan side of the harbour.
