Thursday, 12 June – Portland

Well the wind howled through the night and the rain lashed down so nobody was leaving! We looked at the possibilities for going west the following day and it was either sailing through the night, leaving very early in the morning or leaving at late morning to go round Portland Bill through the inshore passage. We opted for the very early morning departure so after a coffee stop in the marina we headed off to Weymouth on the bus in driving rain and a strong wind. It was still raining as we walked around but it soon dried up and we had a nice lunch at an independent cafe.

Richard tried to buy some spares for the toilet system on Harvard but with no luck so while Richard dismantled the seized (poo) diverter valve (yuck), Anne went off to Lidl to do some shopping. What an exciting life we lead!! Anyway both tasks successfully completed. It turned out Tim and Lucy had decided our passage plan was best for them also, giving us some confidence our calculations were correct, so it was an early night anticipating and early start.
