Saturday, 24 May – Marchwood YC

Well what a difference a couple of weeks make as we have both recovered from our awful covid or flu bug. It was totally horrible. Anne’s hip is also much better so although the weather forecast is not great we decided we would set off on Harvard and see where we can sail to this summer. The Channel Islands is still our target but we remain flexible and are not going to push ourselves too hard.

Tidied up at home and after a trip to Morrisons for provisions and fuel for the outboard motor we were up at the mooring by about midday. Unfortunately we timed our arrival at the pontoons at low tide and managed to run aground as we were trying to come alongside. A quick burst of engine power pushed us along to a deeper spot and we were soon safely tied up with plenty of water under the keel. Some dredging needed at the downstream end of the pontoon system!!

Richard did lots of preparation work whilst Anne took the car home and caught the train and bus back to Marchwood (in record trip time). We weren’t sure if the club galley would be open so we ate supper onboard. Richard went up to the clubhouse for a drink with a friend staying on his boat just next to us whilst Anne crashed out onboard. All together a reasonably satisfactory day having planned it as time to organise and check everything before leaving.
