Tuesday, 10 June – Newtown Creek

The wind blew strongly throughout the night and our plans to push on towards Poole were abandoned as first of all it would mean tacking all the way in a very fresh breeze (of which we have had more than enough) and the forecast is for the wind to go easterly tomorrow morning that would have made our plan to anchor or moor in Studland Bay not a very good idea as it would be exposed to the new wind. After much debate we decided to leave very early tomorrow morning to leave at slack tide through the Hurst narrows and hopefully take advantage of a strengthening easterly wind to head west to Weymouth or Portland Harbour. It will mean we will have the tide against us to start with but it should be a fast passage towards the end.

The wind didn’t really drop all day until the evening so we just enjoyed the peaceful location and spent the day reading our books. Let’s hope tomorrow we can finally leave the Solent and head out to sea!
