Woke up to find it was quite misty but mid-morning it started to burn off and we headed off out to sea rather earlier than we intended, but we were bored just hanging around. Once outside the Dart there was enough wind to tack south against the tide keeping inshore towards Start Point. At one point the wind was gusting 20 knots and on a flat sea Harvard was fairly speeding along. We caught the back eddy off Start Point that really helped us but once round Start Point we far too early by over an hour and it was hard work trying to go west, to windward, against the tide, with the wind dropping from time to time making it even harder.

Eventually the tide changed and with a bit of breeze we made it to Salcombe at low tide. Carefully navigated past the bar and decided to anchor upstream as it was very busy in the main mooring area and we would have had to raft up on a buoy against another boat. Anchored and were immediately pounced on by the harbour staff to pay our harbour fees! Fair enough. Tidied up and a nice supper after a good sailing day.
