Monday, 21 July – Plymouth to the River Yealm

Despite Richard thinking the police would move us on because we were anchored opposite a warship we had a very nice peaceful night. The next morning we waited until the warship had left and headed out towards the River Yealm. Once outside the breakwater the waves were not too bad and we unrolled the genoa to give us more speed with the engine just ticking over.

Type 45 destroyer heading out. Opposite our anchorage.

Then we had a bit of a moment as the genoa furler jambed and we couldn’t furl the sail up. Happily soon sorted but we need to remember to take up any slack in the furling line once the sail is set as otherwise it tends to work itself into a knot.

Once in the Yealm we picked up a visitor mooring buoy and the harbourmaster soon came along to take our mooring fee. It turned out he also has a Rustler 36 so we chatted for quite a while and then inflated the dinghy to go ashore. It was a bit wet and drizzly but we did some shopping, Anne posted birthday cards, and we stopped by the Dolphin Inn in Newton Ferrers for a drink.
