Richard’s brother, Malcolm, bought him a bottle of gin from the North Uist Distillery for a significant birthday and gave us the challenge to keep the empty bottle and have it refilled when we visited the Outer Hebrides. So after confirming the bus times with the nice lady in the ferry terminal we were soon on our way north. The scenery was rather bleak with scattered houses but after just a little less than an hour’s travel the bus driver dropped us off at the distillery shop. The bottle design has changed but it was still valid for a refill and we also bought another bottle for good measure. All complete with complimentary bottles of tonic.
With a rather heavy rucksack full of bottles we walked a bit further up the road to a supermarket where we bought supplies and then waited for the bus back to Lochboisdale. A smooth journey back and then back onboard for supper. It was interesting looking at the harbour and thinking how much it cost and how projects such as this benefited from European Union funding.
