Early in the morning the anchor alarm woke us up as Harvard had swung right around and there was a horrible swell coming into the harbour making it quite uncomfortable. The anchor hadn’t dragged so we were quite safe but we gave up the idea of going ashore and set off for Tobermory. As we approached Ardnamurchan Point the wind picked up and we had a nice sail for about an hour and a half when once again the wind died away. However, just before we started the engine, as we were drifting along, a large minke whale surfaced right next to us a couple of times. A really wonderful sight although a little bit scary when you imagine how big and powerful they are.
We then motored along to Tobermory and picked up a mooring buoy in anticipation of some bad weather arriving. We inflated the dinghy and rowed ashore to check-in with the harbour master for two nights and do a little bit of shopping. Nothing really further to report and no decent photographs unfortunately. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. The lady from Stornoway Coastguard, with a wonderful Scottish accent, warns of possible Force 8 winds on the regular weather bulletin on the marine VHF.
