Woke up to a much better morning. Up early and ashore for showers and shopping and then we motored over to the fuel berth to top-up with diesel (62 litres) and water. Paid our mooring dues and bought a chart for Northern Ireland. As we left the chart plotter played up again and whilst Anne motored us slowly down the Sound of Mull Richard updated the chart card and the chart plotter software. After the chart plotter updated the software of two other components on the network it finally decided to behave itself. Whether it will be alright tomorrow we shall have to wait and see. The paddle steamer Waverley passed us with a large number of passengers enjoying the experience.
As we had missed the tide to head further south we turned in to Lochaline and revisited the pontoon system there and had a friendly welcome from the harbour master. He said he has had people leaving Tobermory at 4 o’clock in the morning because they cannot stand all the rolling a round when the swell comes in the harbour in a northerly wind. He did admit, however, that it was not that much better in Lochaline when the wind funnels down the loch.
The last time we were here with Gwynne and Tracy, Richard was having another battle with the chart plotter and missed the walk to Ardtornish. We really need a walk after being on Harvard all day yesterday so it was a great relief to stretch our legs and enjoy the nice surroundings. Back at the pontoon system it was Richard cooking supper and Anne changing the bedding so at least we should smell sweet for the next few days. Not sure where we will head to tomorrow. The wind is not being very helpful in blowing from the south and it sounds as if it is going to rain quite a bit.
Very sorry to hear the chart plotter is behaving badly again but delighted at all your sightings of minke whales and dolphins, you lucky things!!
Loving the posts 👍
