Thursday, 27 June, Greystones

We had a coffee in the posh bakery in the marina, shopped at Lidl and then in the centre of town. It really blew all day and an Irish boat trying to go south from Howth came in to say they had given up as it was just too windy. Nevertheless a rather eccentric Frenchman sailing on his own in a small Pogo yacht set off at 4 pm for the Scillies. He reckoned it would take about 30 hours according to his voyage planning software. As he had already sailed to Norway and around the top of Scotland, he obviously knew what he was doing. In fairness the wind was dropping by then and there was club racing in the evening that all seemed to go well.

We prepared Harvard to leave early the next day and the Irish yacht agreed with us that leaving at 5 am was about right to catch the favourable tide going south and with the wind forecast to be more westerly there would hopefully be faster sailing.
