Wednesday, 26 June, Howth to Greystones

The forecast was for strong southerly winds for a few days and we didn’t fancy being in Howth for any longer. Port rot would set in!! We decided to make a short hop south to Greystones on the other side of Dublin bay, only about 20 miles away. It was an early start to catch the favourable tide and we made good progress only to be caught up with the cruise ship Carnival Legend coming in to anchor off Dun Laoghaire. The pilot boat chased us away and said we should have called port control beforehand but it could have called us anytime on channel 16 if it thought there was an issue, which there wasn’t. Anyway, we didn’t argue as a Carnival pensioner being hit by one of his own cruise ships would not have looked good in the press!!!

Arrived without further incident and safely moored up before the wind arrived and pretty much mulched for the rest of the day as the wind started to blow strongly from the south.

Leaving Howth early in the morning
