Tuesday, 23 July, Salcombe to Dittisham

No a very good night as there were some strong wind gusts and Harvard was veering around on the anchor. So we prepared for sea, left the anchorage just after 09:00 BST and motored slowly downstream. Raised the mainsail and found a really rough sea just off Salcombe Harbour even though the wind was not that strong (13 to 15 knots). Must have been the ebb from Salcombe crossing the east going stream in the Channel. Once we had the genoa pulling and left Salcombe behind things settled down and we broad reached to off Start Point, gybed and broad reached on the other tack towards Dartmouth. It turned out to be a great sail using the Hydrovane to steer nearly all the time with the speed rarely dropping below 6 knots.

Off Dartmouth we dropped sail and motored up to Dittisham where we picked up a visitor buoy without problem and spent a quiet afternoon tidying up and cleaning.
