Our visit to Torquay was pre-planned because we are going to a 50th wedding anniversary party near Yeovil the next day. We have hired a car and the marina in Torquay is pre-booked for 3 nights. Richard was best man at Joe and Anne’s wedding all those years ago, and friends at school in Middlesbrough before that. We also have sailing friends David and Debbie in Torquay.
So we slipped our mooring and motored down to Dartmouth to find no wind so we slowly motored towards Torquay and even tried trailing a mackerel line behind us but with no success. We were soon across Torbay and tied up on a new visitor’s pontoon. It was all a little bit confusing as it is so new it doesn’t feature in our marina guide but we eventually worked out where to go and the marina staff seemed happy with our berth.
Then it was time for long and luxurious showers after lots of nights at anchor and on moorings before meeting David and Debbie for supper at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club, where they are members. Watched a bit of the Olympics opening ceremony and felt sorry for those out in the rain.
